Builth Wells Club Report 2010-2011
Well! Here we are again! Builth YFC has had another exciting year! We left last year’s rally with a hard earned 4th place, due to the high amount of interest and entries in competitions. We also took home the Winter Competitions trophy, joint with Llandefalle.
This was followed by a busy week at the Royal Welsh Show, with Mairwen performing as Shirley Bassey in Stars in Your Eyes whilst also doing the flower arranging. Our box display gained 2nd place.
We kicked off the year in September with our AGM which produced a new set of club officers! An eventful winter programme followed, including a quiz and a bingo night with Gareth as the host! At our Halloween party members carved their pumpkins, watching them using the knives was scary enough for me!
Field day was soon upon us, which saw Alana, Kim and Sara win the U16 speaking; Rhian and Evan decorating their Christmas tree to first place standard and our cube exhibit also gaining 1st place. We came 2nd overall.
Alex tried his hand at lamb trimming and came an excellent 2nd place.
Competitions day in Brecon saw numerous 1st and 2nd places for the club which resulted in Builth gaining 2nd place overall.
Towards Christmas we made decoupage Christmas cards, snowmen Christmas cake decorations and had a series of cookery classes ending with a decorated Christmas cake! The Christmas Eve carol service was attended by many members.
Members young and old thoroughly enjoyed the annual dinner at the Commodore Hotel with Delme Harries as our guest speaker. A night of crazy dancing followed!
The New Year meant a start to practices for the entertainment and junior play. The hard work paid off as we gained first place with both of these in drama week, and continued the success at the Wales Entertainment Feast in Swansea which now takes the club to the National Entertainment Finals in Blackpool.
We have held three sell-out concerts at Wyeside and are currently fundraising for our trip to Blackpool with two whist drives and a bingo night planned.
We are now looking forward to the rest of the YFC year with an added treat of a weekend by the sea in Blackpool! All that’s left to say is a HUGE thank you to everybody involved throughout the year! Have a great rally day everyone!
