Myths and Legends at Wales YFC Eisteddfod

I have always loved writing stories and this is the second time that I have entered the Wales YFC Eisteddfod Homework Competition. This year's theme was Myths and Legends and as I have never written about Myths and Legends before, I had to do some research on the topic. It took me a long time to decide what my story was going to be about, but once I had the idea I was away and was able to write the whole story in one evening. I spent time the next day editing it and then sent it off to the Wales YFC office under the pseudo name of ‘Amy', as competitors competing for the ‘Chair' are required to remain anonymous.

Some weeks later I was surprised and delighted to get a phone call from the Wales YFC office telling me I had gained 2nd place with my story and even more surprised to be told I was runner up to the ‘Chair'. My family and I travelled to Brynaman to the Eisteddfod where I received a certificate and we watched the Chairing of the Bard, it was an amazing experience.

Here is an extract from my story:

When Anna arrived at the woods the following day she met Elfie and asked for his help.

‘Tis a dangerous thing you are asking me to do here Anna, but I shall do it,' he replied.

‘I will repay you for this, I swear!'

Elfie did what he was asked to do quite simply, with help from his friends, and managed to get Lance to the forest.

‘What is it Anna? Lance asked....'

‘I had the dream,' Anna cried as she ran to him and held him tightly.

‘I don't understand,' he replied, ‘what dream?'

Lance listened carefully as she told him about the dream.

‘Say something,' she said, once she had told him everything. He looked away, ashamed.

‘Anna...'

‘Yes?'

‘You cannot avoid your fate, once you have had the nightmare, that is it...' he stopped and looked at the floor as Anna walked away. An object on the floor caught his eye. It was the book he had taught her to read from. Never before had Lance actually thought about what was written in the book, he sat down and quietly began to read. Lances' eyes widened as he discovered the truth and meaning of this book.
