Brecknock YFC 62nd Annual Drama and Pantomime Festival 2009

Brecknock Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs 62nd Annual Drama and Pantomime Festival was held at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon on 2nd - 7th February 2009 supported by Delyth Parry, Agricultural Manager, Barclays bank. Members competed in the Pantomime, Junior Drama, Senior One Plus and Junior One Plus competitions.

During the week long Festival, Eleven clubs competed and up to 250 young people performed on stage. Sennybridge YFC won the Pantomime competition with their production of ‘Snow White & The Seven Dwarves' written by Julie Robinson, this same production won the NFU Mutual Trophy for Best Production of the Festival.  Builth Wells YFC won the junior Drama section with their production entitled ‘That Old Black Magic' produced by David Price. There were 24 One Plus entries, twelve of which were junior and twelve senior entries. Troedrhiwdalar YFC achieved first place in the Junior One Plus competition with ‘Eppynt' and Sennybridge YFC won the Senior One Plus competition with ‘Credit Punch'.

The NFU Mutual, Brecon, Builth Wells and Hay on Wye Branch offices sponsored the awards to members for their outstanding contribution to the Festival, James Healey, Erwood YFC won Best Actor 26 years or under; Sarah Price, Pontfaen YFC won Best Actress 26 years or under; Milo Rodell-Jones, Llandefalle YFC won Best Actor 18 years or under and Rebecca Price, Builth Wells YFC won the Best Actress 18 years.

The FUW sponsored the awards to members for their outstanding contribution to the One Plus section of the Festival, Dyfed Watkins, Sennybridge won Best Male Performance 26 Years or under and Lisa Powell, Erwood won Best Female Performance 26 years or under.  Steffan Davies, Trecastle received the Kirsty Jones Memorial Award for Best Performance under 16 years.

The talent within the Federation does not stop with the acting skills, six out of the six Pantomime entries were original scripts, written specifically for the Festival, Builth Wells YFC ‘There was an old Woman who lived in a Shoe" won the Builth Wells YFC Trophy for the Best Written Play/Entertainment.   

Brecknock were very fortunate this year to receive a new award kindly donated by Elwyn Davies, Spin Dogs for Best Set.  This new award was presented for the first time to Bwlch & Crickhowell YFC with their production "Sleeping Beauty".

Sennybridge YFC will be representing Brecknock Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs at the Wales YFC Entertainment finals on Friday 6th March 2009, at The Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot. Saturday will see the members competing at Ysgol Y Pant, Llantrisant in the Junior Reading, Junior Public Speaking, Senior Brainstrust, Call My Bluff and the Intermediate Debating Competitions.
