Brecknock YFC 65th Annual Rally and Show 2009

The place to be for all Brecknock Young Farmers' Clubs members on Saturday 6th June was Glangwye Farm, Boughrood, Brecon. Despite the wet and cold weather hundreds of members and supporters congregated for the 65th Annual Rally Day, hosted by Llandefalle YFC sponsored by Nite Lite Security Services Ltd.

The number of competitions staged was over 40, ranging from Mime from a Musical, Sheep Shearing, Generation Game, Woodwork, Cookery, Puppet & Show, Mountain Bike Time Trial, Photography, Floral Art to Tug of War. Many competitions were eliminators to Wales and National Finals, so members will be found at the Royal Welsh Show and the Royal Show during the summer competing for the county.

Over 300 members took part from throughout Brecknockshire, with some competitions boasting an entry of over 40 teams.

The awards ceremony closed the proceedings for the day lead by Rally Chair Sharon Pritchard & County Chair Joanne Evans; to include a presentation of £200 from NFU Cymru.

Troedrhiwdalar YFC won the Mary Phillips Sports Trophy and Cooper Cup for gaining the highest total aggregate marks 18 years or under.  Sennybridge YFC won the Fedw (Trecastle) Cup for the highest aggregated marks in the Stockjudging and the John de Winton Cup for the highest total points in the Winter Competitions. Erwood YFC had an outstanding day winning the; Bibby's Cup, for highest points on Rally Day and finally the Miss Vera Jones Efficiency Shield for the Overall Winners.

To bring the day to a close, members returned to the rally site in the evening for a dance with Mid-Wales Roadshow and The Renditions providing the entertainment.

The Rally was a resounding success and ensured that those involved with the movement were given a day to remember for many years to come.

Brecknock YFC would like to thank the following most sincerely, without whom the event would not have been held:

  • The hosts Mr & Mrs Mark Jones-Davies & Family.
  • The host Club; Llandefalle YFC.
  • All the Vice Presidents, judges, stewards, scorers, commentators, sponsors, club leaders, officers, supporters and everyone else who was involved
