Club & Community Grant
18th August 2009
Community Grants
The scheme is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and is to support young people aged 16-25 to undertake voluntary work in their own community. Grants are available of up to £2,000, though last year the grants averaged £300. The application has to be written by the young people themselves. They can be part of a formal group or just a group of young people coming together to run a one-off project. The applications will be assessed by a panel of young people.
Last year there were 8 successful applications. Below are some of the projects that were run by young people:
- Organising a concert to help raise funds for a village hall to upgrade its toilets to accommodate wheelchair users
- Creating a community garden
- Opening up an overgrown footpath for local people and making it accessible for people with disabilities
- Making furniture for a community garden
- Providing peer training to enable young people to train their peers
