Llandefalle YFC Celebrate 60 Years

Llandefalle YFC recently held its 60th Anniversary Dinner at Hafod a Hendre, The Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells. The evening was attended by over 120 guests. The evening began with Christie Joseph extending a warm welcome to all. The meal enjoyed by all was catered by Golden Valley caterers and the bar provided by the Wheelwrights of Erwood. The guest speaker for the evening was Malcolm Thomas, Malcolm is a past member of Carmarthenshire YFC and is honoured to be a life member of the National Federation of YFC. A farmer's son born and bred. He is the current Director of Business Services, Membership and Regions for the NFU England and Wales. After having worked for the Ministry of Agriculture and Welsh office in Cardiff, Malcolm joined the NFU team in Wales as Deputy Director/Head of Policy in 1989 and later moved up to the Director role in 1999. In 2008, he was promoted to Director of Business Services, Membership and Regions based at the NFU Headquarters in Stoneleigh.

A history of the club was then given by past and present members beginning with Ieuan Jones who gave an insite to how the club was run in the early days. Gwyn Davies then reported on club activities through the 60's & 70's. Sharon Pritchard followed on reporting on the events from the 80's to when Llandefalle hosted the rally in 1996. Helen Evans then spoke from when she joined club up to hosting of this years rally. Emily Pritchard concluded with her experiences to date of YFC and her hopes for the club in the future.

An awards ceremony was also held where members were presented with certificates and shields for representing the county.

The overall shield winners were;

Lyn Jones Members Member shield was presented to Mr Christie Joseph

John & Eira Evans Stockjudging shied was presented to Mr William Gittoes

Gwyn & Hazel Davies Junior Member shield was presented to Miss Alex Joseph

David & Sue Morgan Achievement Shield was presented to Miss Aileen Powell

Mr Lewis Edwards the clubs president proposed a toast to Llandefalle YFC this was followed by Mr Afan Jones a founder member and Miss Bryony Pritchard the clubs youngest member who kindly cut the cake which was kindly made by Neil Dillon. The vote of thanks was given by Mr Mark Powell, vice Chairman. A group photograph was achieved of past and present members. A dance concluded the evening which was immensly enjoyed by all. Llandefalle YFC would like to thank all those who came to the Dinner and helped them to join in the celebration.
