Brecknock YFC 63rd Annual Drama & One Plus Festival 2010

Brecknock Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs 63rd Annual Drama and One Plus Festival was held at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon on 1st - 6th February 2010 supported by Barclays bank. Members competed in the Senior Drama, Junior Drama, Senior One Plus and Junior One Plus competitions.

During the week long Festival, twelve clubs competed and up to 250 young people performed on stage. Builth Wells YFC won the Senior Drama competition with their production of ‘Extraxts from Shakers' produced by Anwen Nicholls, this same production won the NFU Mutual Trophy for Best Production of the Festival.  Builth Wells YFC won the junior Drama section with their production entitled ‘King Henry VIII' produced by David Price. There were 27 One Plus entries, thirteen of which were senior and fourteen junior entries. Llandefalle YFC achieved first place in the Junior One Plus competition with ‘Time to Say Good Bye' and Llandefalle YFC also won the Senior One Plus competition with ‘Right Here...Right Now.

The Brecon & Radnor Express sponsored the awards to members for their outstanding contribution to the Festival, Sam Machin, Erwood YFC won Best Actor 26 years or under; Mairwen Davies, Builth Wells YFC won Best Actress 26 years or under; Samuel Powell, Erwood YFC won Best Actor 18 years or under and Vicky-Lynn Healey, Erwood YFC won the Best Actress 18 years.

The FUW sponsored the awards to members for their outstanding contribution to the One Plus section of the Festival, Mark Powell, Sennybridge won Best Male Performance 26 Years or under and Katie O'Byrne, Trecastle won Best Female Performance 26 years or under.  Samuel Powell, Erwood received the Kirsty Jones Memorial Award for Best Performance under 16 years.

The talent within the Federation does not stop with the acting skills, two out of the thirteen Drama entries were original scripts, and written specifically for the Festival, Llandefalle YFC The Show Must Go On" won the Builth Wells YFC Trophy for the Best Written Play. 

The Spin Dogs, awards for Best Set was presented to Builth Wells YFC with their production "King Henry VIII".

A new award was presented this year for the first time, kindly donated by George Cooper in memory of his wife Sally Cooper who sadly passed away in June.  Sally was passionate about choreography and a new award was given in her memory.  The award was won by Builth Wells YFC, Senior One Plus "Only Nan's Allowed".

Builth Wells YFC will be representing Brecknock Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs at the Wales YFC Drama finals on Friday 5th March 2010, at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon.  Tickets are available from Theatr Brycheiniog and go on sale from the 22nd February 2010.
