Wales YFC Council

13th February 2011

members from all over Wales travelled to Builth Wells on Saturday the 5th of February to attend the Wales YFC Council meeting and to vote on a number of important issues affecting the organisations.

Members from 11 county federations attended the meeting to adopt a new Wales YFC safeguarding children and young people policy, to discuss the AGM meeting to be held in October and plans for the Young Peoples’ Village this year and to view the proposed new logo for the organisation. An extraordinary general meeting was also held following the Council meeting to approve a change in the charitable status of Wales YFC so that it becomes an incorporated charitable company from the 1st of April 2011.

“It was a marathon day for county representatives on Saturday,” explained Enfys Evans Wales YFC Chairman, “with four sub-committee meetings held in the morning, Activities and International, Youth Forum, Training and Promotions and Rural Affairs, followed by the Council meeting where a number of key decisions were made to move the organisation forward in the future. Democracy at its best!’

Council members voted in favour of adopting a safeguarding policy for Wales YFC which will be both valuable and workable for the organisation and the Youth Forum committee, members under 18, agreed to take on the responsibility of promoting the policy to the younger members. Discussions were also held regarding the AGM weekend and it was finally decided to hold the October meetings along with the AGM in Cardiff on the 1st weekend of October. Following the Council meeting an extraordinary general meeting was held and members approved a change in the charitable status of YFC to protect the trustees of the organisation (Wales YFC council members over 18) from litigation. As of 1st April 2011 Wales YFC will become and Incorporated Charitable Company.

Enfys added, ‘The highlight of the meeting was the viewing and approval of the new logo for the organisation with an impressive majority in favour of its adoption. It has been a long process and I would like to thank everyone who has supported the organisation during this time. The logo will be out an about very soon and we realise that it will not be to everybody’s taste – but isn’t it great that we’re all different as the world would be a very boring place otherwise!!”

Wales YFC will now turn their attention to the forthcoming Entertainment Feast to be held at the Grand Theatre Swansea on the 12th and 13th of March. The weekend will host both the English and Welsh Entertainment competitions along with a commemorative tree planting session to celebrate Wales YFC’s 75th anniversary with Coed Cadw (Woodland Trust), training sessions to assist with script writing, theatre make up and costume making and a sky dive by the Wales YFC chairman. Those attending are also encouraged to bring along old photos so that they can be scanned as a part of the Wales YFC archiving project. Tickets for the half hour  performances are available by phoning the theatres box office on 01972 475 715.
