The place to be for all Brecknock Young Farmers’ Clubs members on Saturday 4th June was Guddr Farm, Llanbedr, Crickhowell. The sun shone for most of the day and brought hundreds of members and supporters out for the 67th Annual Rally Day, hosted by Bwlch & Crickhowell YFC sponsored by David Evans Agriculture Ltd.
The number of competitions staged was over 30, ranging from YFC Under the Hammer, Sheep Shearing, Generation Game, Woodwork, Cookery, Club Band, Generation Game, Photography, Floral Art to Tug of War. Many competitions were eliminators toWalesand National Finals, so members will be found at the Royal Welsh Show and the Royal Show during the summer competing for the county.
Over 300 members took part from throughout Brecknockshire, with some competitions boasting an entry of over 30 teams.
The awards ceremony closed the proceedings for the day lead by Rally Chair William Jenkins & County Chair Mary Phillips.
Sennybridge YFC won the Cooper Cup for gaining the highest total aggregate marks 18 years or under. The John de Winton Cup for the highest total points in the Winter Competitions went jointly to Builth Wells YFC and Sennybridge YFC. Llandefalle YFC had an outstanding day winning the; Bibby’s Cup, for highest points on Rally Day and finally the Miss Vera Jones Efficiency Shield for the Overall Winners. This was a huge achievement to accomplish; Llandefalle last achieved this in 1959.
To bring the day to a close, members returned to the rally site in the evening for a dance with Mid-Wales Roadshow and Heebeegeebeez providing the entertainment.
The Rally was a resounding success and ensured that those involved with the movement were given a day to remember for many years to come.
