Affiliation - How Does it Affect me as a YFC Member?
What is affiliation?
Affiliation is your YFC’s link to the larger network of YFC throughout England and Wales, (Scotland and the two Irish YFC organisations have always been independent). To be able to participate in YFC activities at a County, Wales or National level you must be a member of an affiliated Club who works in line with your County Federation.
At present your Club is affiliated to the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs of England and Wales.
The question that is currently being considered by the Wales YFC Council is whether or not a YFC County Federation can, if they so wish, affiliate to the Wales Federation of YFC rather than to the National Federation of YFC and receive at least the same standards of service.
How does affiliation affect me?
As a member of your YFC Club, who you are affiliated to effects how your membership levy is spent, as well what activities you can be involved in.
What is levy?
Levy is a sum of money that you pay as your membership subscription which is passed to your affiliating body (currently NFYFC). The amount you pay is agreed firstly at the AGM of NFYFC, and then at your County and Club AGM’s (at which point in some Counties and Clubs, an amount can be added for local use).
The levy supports the programmes of work that are offered that you are able to take part in as part of your membership.
In support of the programmes of work that Wales YFC undertake, NFYFC Council have agreed to return 50% of the levy collected from Welsh members back to Wales YFC. (This is an agreement that is discussed every three years at NFYFC Council.that is discussed every three years at NFYFC Council.
Affiliating to Wales YFC – Why ask the question?
Wales YFC Council, which is made up of members representing all Counties of Wales has been asked to consider the options around affiliation following an approach by a County Federation from within Wales. After many months of research it has been agreed to put together information for Counties to consider whether it would be feasible for those Counties who wish to make the decision, to de-affiliate from NFYFC and affiliate instead to Wales YFC.
How will the question of affiliation affect me?
A working group of members from throughout Wales and staff members have carefully considered areas that affect your membership and the differences you would see if your County Federation chose to affiliate to Wales YFC instead of NFYFC.
